The fifth generation iPod Touch (stylized and marketed as the iPod touch, and colloquially known as the iPod Touch 5G, iPod Touch 5, or iPod 5) was unveiled at Apple's media event alongside the iPhone 5 on September 12, 2012, and was released on October 11, 2012. A mobile device designed and marketed by Apple Inc. with a touchscreen-based user interface, it succeeded the 4th-generation iPod Touch. It is compatible with up to iOS 9.3.5, which was released on August 25, 2016.
It was confirmed on June 8, 2015, at WWDC 2015 that the iPod Touch 5th generation would support iOS 9. This makes it the first iPod touch to support 4 major versions of iOS being iOS 6, iOS 7, iOS 8 and iOS 9. Other A5-based devices will also support iOS 9 including the iPad 2 (6 major iOS versions), the iPhone 4S (5 major iOS versions) and the iPad Mini (4 major iOS versions). iOS 9.3.5 is the last update that supports the iPod Touch 5th generation as it is incompatible iOS 10 along with the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and 3, and iPad Mini 1st generation due to hardware limitations.
Earphones known as Apple EarPods are also included with the fifth generation iPod touch and other devices announced at the Apple media event on September 12, 2012. They superseded earphones that were included with previous generation iPhones and iPods.[19] According to technology commentators, the redesign of the earphones is aimed to improve sound quality by allowing air to travel in and out more freely.[20][21] Apple states that the redesign of their earphones allows it to \"rival high-end headphones that cost hundreds of dollars more\".[20] Reviews by Gizmodo and TechRadar reported that although the redesigned earphones sounded better than its predecessor, reviewers felt that the quality of sound produced was still underwhelming.[22] Both have further stated that the EarPods pale in comparison to other earphones of a similar price.[21]
Andrew Williams from TrustedReviews noted the 5th generation iPod touch's common features with the iPhone 5, while praising the design and the respectable connectivity.[23] Graham Barlow of TechRadar commended the improved screen, more color variants, greater quality earphones and the iPod's light weight while criticizing the \"reset\" of the lightning port.[24] Scott Stein of CNET praised the enhanced camera quality and design, but remarked that the iPod touch is still weaker and outclassed compared to other iOS devices.[25]
@ Home Button, no, they were laying on a flat surface. I was wondering if it was an overheating issue. Also keep in mind these are the new i pod touch 5th generation, they are very sleek and have the titanium back! I have read some things on the web that people were having trouble with iphones bending on their own!!!
@Yocat333, apple basically told me the same thing today! I have two 5th generation ipods that this has happened to. First my son's 2 weeks ago and now my daughters. At first I thought maybe my son misused his, but when it happened to my daughters, I thought this is nuts....you can only tell it's warped if you lay it on a flat surface... I like you was very dissapointed with Apple for not standing behind thier product. They told me that I have to complain to customer service and if they get enough complaints then maybe they will do a recall.. Like I have nothing better to do!!! Ugh. I have a mac book, 4 different i pods ranging from 4th generation,5th generation and shuffles...and 2 iphones.....VERY DISPLEASED WITH APPLE!!!!
I had the same problem after I bought ipod 5th for 3weeks. I got an ipod nano and an ipod touch 4th and they never had any problem. As soon as I 've seen it bent, I reported to Customer Service and went to the nearest apple store. Luckily, they have replaced the new one for me.
The final entry-level 16 GB and original 32 GB and 64 GB configurations of the iPod touch 5th Gen were available in six different colors -- gray (originally a dark gray \"slate\" and medium toned gunmetal \"space gray\" starting September 10, 2013), silver, pink, yellow, blue, and red. The gray option has a black front whereas all other colors -- silver, pink, yellow, blue, and red -- have white fronts.
The 5th generation iPod touch gets the exact same display as the iPhone 5. Though the 4th gen. edition had identical (Retina) resolution as the iPhone 4/4S, it was a cheaper display. This year, the two devices are equals.

Whether or not Apple releases a next generation of the iPod touch, relegating the current model into retirement, or discontinues production of the iPod touch altogether remains to be seen. But either way, the iPod touch Gen 7 will be one step closer to obsolescence.
That update did more than just increment the processor, which moved from 2 cores to 4 cores and nearly doubled the clock speed. It increased the RAM from 1 GB to 2 GB; it includes a better graphics chip; and it has four cores instead of two. It also ensured that the device runs with more recent versions of iOS. The 6th generation iPod touch is limited to iOS 12; the 7th generation runs the current iOS 15.
Starting at $199, it is the cheapest iOS device. It comes with 32 GB storage, and you can increase it to 128 GB ($299) or 256 GB ($399). For comparison, the low-end iPhone SE (2nd generation) costs $429 with 64GB and the 256 GB model costs $579. So if you want a portable device with a lot of storage, the iPod touch is the cheapest.
The fifth generation iPod Touch (sold as iPod touch, sometimes called the iPod Touch 5 or iPod Touch 5G) is a pocket computer that is designed and sold by Apple Inc. It replaces the fourth generation iPod Touch. Like the iPhone 5, it is a thinner and lighter that introduces a 4-inch screen. Other new features include 1080p video recording, panoramic pictures, an LED flash, an Apple A5 processor, and Siri.
The fifth generation iPod touch currently runs iOS 7, which was released on September 18, 2013. It is the only iPod Touch that supports iOS 7.[10] Apple announced on June 2, 2014 that the fifth generation iPod Touch would support iOS 8 in the fall.
The fifth generation iPod Touch has an aluminum body that is made from the same aluminum that is used in a MacBook. Along with an iSight camera and an LED flash, the fifth generation iPod Touch has a new feature called the \"iPod touch loop.\" There is a button on the bottom left side on the back of the iPod Touch. You press down on the button and you are able to put a loop around the button.
Unfortunately, the iPod touch 5th generation will not work with Spotify as it is running iOS 9.3.5, while you need a device operating iOS 10 or later. You can check out this support article for more info on system requirements.
On 26 June 2014, Apple refreshed model the iPod touch (5th generation) (A1421) to add a 16 GB model with the iSight camera included, discontinuing the iPod touch (5th generation) (A1509) in the process.

Apple followed up the fifth-generation iPod touch with the sixth-generation in the summer of 2015. Compared to the previous generation, the newer model featured improved performance and the removal of the wrist strap. Since the seventh-generation iPod touch released in 2019, Apple has not yet updated its iconic product.
iPod touches have become less like iPhones as time goes on. The fifth-generation iPod touch is a monster, a jumble of mixed-and-matched parts from across the iPhone and iPod line: it has the same tall 4-inch screen and wireless capabilities of the iPhone 5, the A5 processor of the iPhone 4S, the colors of the i
